I have many years’ experience as a nurse, in a range of settings.  These include Coronary Care, Intensive Care, Outpatient nurse, Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist, Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner, Colorectal Specialist nurse and my current role as Colorectal Triage Nurse Specialist.  Each of these roles has afforded me the opportunity to develop a range of skills including teamwork, lone working, communication skills including communicating sensitive and complex information, IT skills and assessment skills. As a Colorectal Triage nurse, I have been working to support the front end of the Colorectal service, triaging the referrals as sent through by GP’s and assigning patients to appropriate tests or to clinic. Patients are contacted at the point of referral, to reassure and offer contact details as we understand patients’ potential distress, having been referred through on a fast-track pathway. The role includes ensuring tests are assigned in a timely manner aiming to  provide patients with a gold standard service.
