In 2024, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust started the Cataract Fast pathway. This pathway is for patients who require cataract surgery to improve their vision, with no other eye or health complications which could impact on their surgery. 

In this pathway, the Trust aims for patients to have their first eye operated on within 6 weeks of the referral date. Included in the pathway is an initial telephone pre-operative assessment, where a member of the team contacts the patients to ask a series of questions related to their eye and general health. If the patient 'passes' this assessment, meaning that there were no complication factors
