Back to International Candidate Guidance

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a licenced sponsor. This means that we can sponsor international candidates, subject to meeting the requirements set by the UK Government.

Use this link to the UK government guide to see if you will need a visa to work in the UK: https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa

  • The Health and Care Worker Visa

Most international NHS staff come to work in the UK on a “Health and Care Worker visa”. The Health and Care Worker visa guidance provides a clear step by step guide.

  • Understanding NHS Salaries

Different jobs in the NHS are paid different salaries, depending on their level of responsibility. Generally, jobs are grouped into “bands” from 2 to 9 (doctors have a separate pay scale).

  • Certificate Of Sponsorship (COS)

Once you have an offer of employment, your new employer will request and then issue you with a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ (COS).

  • Skilled Worker Visa

If you are not eligible for a Health and Care Worker Visa, you may be eligible for a “Skilled Worker Visa”. This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa. The Skilled Worker Visa provides a clear step by step guide.

  • How long a visa lasts

For a permanent post, Mid Cheshire Hospitals will normally issue a COS for an initial 3-year period.
