IMG_7591.JPGInternational Day of the Midwife coincided with Leighton Hospital’s 50th birthday and to mark the moment of past and present we captured a photo of Lily Niblett was born at 10.21am to proud parents Catherine Pritchard and Dan Niblett, supported by midwife Linda Hinton.

Jenny Butters, Head of Midwifery, said: ‘As well as being Leighton Hospital’s 50th it’s also a celebratory day for midwives around the world which makes it extra special for our midwives delivering babies born today, May 5th. I would like to thank all our midwifes past and present. We have run a maternity unit since the day we opened our doors 50 years ago and would love to hear from babies who are turning 50 this year!’

Fifty years ago our Head of Nursing for Infection Prevention and Control, Rebecca Consterdine was born at Leighton’s maternity unit on March 9th. The unit was the first part of Leighton to open, which opened three months before the rest of the hospital to handle local demand for beds following the miners’ strikes in the early 1970s.

Image (2).jpegBecky has a deep connection with Leighton which originates from both her parents working for the Trust over many years and an excellent experience as a patient following surgery as a child.

She volunteered as a chapel chaperone as soon as she was old enough and gained experience in many roles as a volunteer before starting her nurse training at 18 years old. She has since held a long and enjoyable career at Mid Cheshire Trust in many different roles.

Becky said: “Leighton Hospital is part of my DNA. I have such a strong connection with the place having been born here and dedicating my working life to a career in nursing. I’ve had many roles here, all of which I have loved. It’s the people that make the place. Mid Cheshire is so friendly and I think that the passion people who work here have for their jobs passes onto our patients and their families. We all want to make sure that everyone we help has the best possible experience at what is often a very difficult point in their lives.”
