Throughout the week, the Trust celebrated Volunteers’ Week, which is an annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.

I love selecting the music I am going to play and the process of putting it all together into a programme. Working with my colleagues is also enjoyable, you can learn a lot about the community doing hospital radio.”

Last July Marta joined as a Volunteer Ward Assistant, helping to provide patients with food and drink and spending time talking to them. After just a few weeks of volunteering, Marta found herself unexpectedly hospitalised for nine days.

As Marta was such a brilliant volunteer, she was encouraged to apply for a full-time permanent position and decided to go for it. She was offered a full time Porter role .“I now feel so proud to wear my uniform.”

Our next Volunteer story is about Andy, who left his previous employer, Bentley, in June 2021, after a long and successful career. He wanted to “get out of the house and meet new people” and decided to apply to volunteer with Mid Cheshire Hospitals.

Through working “on the bank” Andy got chatting to the Procurement Team and as Andy’s previous background was in purchasing, when a position came up within the team, Andy decided to apply and was successful.

Andy said: “It feels like it gives you a purpose. I am really happy to be working at MCHT in this next chapter of life.”
