37. HCA with patient.jpgThe fact that you have been admitted to hospital implies a degree of consent to treatment and care.  However, if you need surgery or specific investigations you will be asked to sign a consent form - this may already have been obtained in the Outpatient clinic, and you will be given a copy.  Please take the time to read your consent form carefully and make sure the doctor's description of the procedure entered on the form is exactly what you expected.

If you don't understand any of the words or abbreviations, please ask for an explanation.  Leaflets explaining consent ("What you have a right to expect") are available on all wards for adults; children and young people; parents and people with learning difficulties produced by The Legal Services Department.
