Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP) has partnered with registered charity Everybody Health and Leisure to provide specialist exercise rehabilitation classes for patients with a range of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions in Crewe.

Eligible patients have access to specialist facilities, with Physiotherapists from CCICP working alongside Everybody Health and Leisure’s Specialist Health Instructors to deliver the service from Crewe Lifestyle Centre.

MSK conditions refers to a group of conditions that can affect a person’s joints, muscles, bones, and spine. This includes inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, and fragility fractures, along with pain conditions such as back pain and osteoarthritis.

Every year, 20% of all people in the UK will see a doctor about a problem linked to a MSK condition, consequently, MSK conditions account for the third-largest area of NHS spend – around £5 billion yearly.

It’s essential that patients with MSK conditions have access to the support and rehabilitation they need to manage their day-to-day symptoms – with regular exercise playing a key role for many.

Physiotherapists from CCICP can refer patients to specialised classes where they receive an initial induction and assessment session to create a tailored exercise plan. From March 2023, a new water-based class will also be offered to eligible patients.

In addition, Physiotherapists can refer their patients to targeted health programmes at Everybody Health and Leisure, and 69% of patients referred have gone on to join with a full membership.

Chris Smith, Physiotherapy Team Manager at CCICP, said: “Our working partnership with Everybody Health and Leisure is a highly valued relationship for CCICP. The sessions are very well received by our patients and provide the essential 'bridge' from primary care back into the leisure sector for patients at the right time.”

Donna Williamson, Senior Manager at Everybody Health and Leisure, said: “Our newly developed MSK service offers accessible and affordable, personalised exercise, rehabilitation, and education. Consisting of both land-based and water-based rehabilitation and therapy which help people maintain mobility, physical function and reduce pain through exercise.”

People interested in being referred for specialised exercise rehab at Everybody Health and Leisure are encouraged to speak to their Physiotherapist.
