What is Qb Testing?
QbTest is an innovative tool selected by NHS England and recommend by the National Institute for Health and care and Excellence (NICE, 2024), to help diagnose ADHD in people aged 6 to 17 years. The QbTest is a computer-based test that measures the core symptoms associated with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It measures cognitive performance and activity levels, providing clinicians with objective measurements of hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention to aid in the clinical assessment for ADHD, alongside treatment monitoring.
The QbTest has two different versions to be used according to the test takers’ actual age.
QbTest (6 -12 years) takes 15 minutes to complete. During the task, two different grey dots appear on the computer screen, one at a time. The task is to press the responder button when a grey dot appears and withhold pressing when a crossed-out grey dot appears on the screen.
QbTest (12+ years) takes 20 minutes to complete. During the task, one of four randomised symbols appears on the computer screen; a blue circle, a blue square, a red square, and a red circle. The task is to press the responder button each time a symbol of both the same colour and shape is repeated.
The results will be interpreted by qualified healthcare professionals in combination with other clinically relevant information, as part of the Neurodevelopmental assessment.
