Leighton Hospital’s Macmillan Centre has been awarded the Christie Quality Mark to recognise the excellent cancer care that patients receive.
The successful accreditation follows an unannounced inspection by three senior nurses on 6 October, which included interviews with patients and staff.
The Christie team also issued questionnaires, observed care, checked the facilities, and assessed data during the day-long review.
They graded the Macmillan Centre on themes including:
- putting patients at the centre of care;
- celebrating and sharing best practice;
- demonstrating a commitment to quality improvement;
- delivering evidence-based practice
- upholding The Christie’s values
The Christie Quality Mark is designed to ensure consistency and excellence across its affiliated sites.
It aims to assure patients that wherever they receive their care, they can feel confident that it is of the same high standard.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals has now retained the accreditation after being one of the first to receive the accolade in 2019.
The Trust’s Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Team (SACT) and Christie representative Sharan Ingram, Matron for Quality and Standards, recently gathered at Leighton Hospital to celebrate the achievement.
Katie Edge, Macmillan Lead SACT Nurse at Mid Cheshire Hospitals, said: “I am extremely proud of the team for achieving the accreditation. The Christie Mark involves a strict criteria and rigorous checks, so this result is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
“On the inspection day we were able to display the excellent care that we provide and show what makes our services so special. Most importantly, the feedback from our patients to the Christie inspection team was exemplary, and that’s the positive outcome that we value most from this assessment.”
Chief Nursing Officer Scott Malton said: “Achieving the Christie Quality Mark once again is a fantastic endorsement of the exceptional care our teams provide every day.
“I’m incredibly proud of everyone involved in maintaining these exceptional standards, which ensure our patients are able to receive high quality care, close to their homes.”
Sharan Ingram, Matron for Quality and Standards at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The team at The Macmillan Unit at Leighton Hospital demonstrated outstanding commitment to delivering quality, patient-centred care in all aspects of their cancer treatment, from bloods nearer home to chemotherapy treatment, counselling and support for Christie and Leighton patients.
“Their professionalism and passion for delivering the best possible outcomes for patients really shone throughout the review and this accreditation of achieving The Christie Quality Mark is thoroughly deserved.”
