Occupational Therapy

Service Information

Occupational Therapy offers treatment for people with a range of illnesses, injuries & disabilities, through specific occupation.

It aims to enable individuals to reach their maximum level of function & independence in their life.

The Occupational Therapist assesses the individual & develops a programme of activity to promote independence. Activities relate to the individual’s needs & environment.

Services provided include:-


  • Acute in-patients
  • In-patient stroke Rehabilitation
  • Musculoskeletal out-patients


How to refer to the Service


Referrals to Occupational Therapy are received in a variety of different ways:-



Written referrals

Using a standard referral card or letter.


Blanket referrals

Patients requiring OT intervention are assessed and treated without a signed referral card, overall authorisation being previously obtained.


Verbal referrals

These are accepted as long as relevant information is available, and where possible followed up in writing.


Multi-disciplinary referrals

Are made to a multi-disciplinary team, of which the therapist is a member.




 Facilities available across Leighton Hospital, Crewe and Victoria Infirmary, Northwich.

  • Shared Reception Facilities


Hospital Location 
From the Main entrance turn left by the Porter's Desk through the double doors.  We are situated on the left about half way down - sign posted Occupational Therapy.

From the Out Patient Hall turn right and continue down the corridor until you see the sign for the department. (Opposite ECG)

Victoria Infirmary

The Occupational Therapy department is situated within the Rehabilitation Unit, which is the first building on the left as you enter the hospital car park.

From the Rehabilitation Unit entrance we are situated on the left, about half way down the main corridor - sign posted "Occupational Therapy".
