If you are one of the few ladies recalled to an assessment clinic it is because the screening pictures on their own are not sufficient and further tests are required to be certain that all is well.

Further information will need to be obtained. This extra information may come from further mammograms targeting the area of concern, ultrasound tests, breast examination and breast biopsy. You will receive a leaflet providing more information prior to attending. A copy of the leaflet is available to download at the bottom right of this page.

The type of the tests that will be performed depends on the nature of the concern on the original screening mammograms.

At assessment you will see Consultant Radiologists who is an expert in the field of breast imaging and will discuss the tests and results directly with you.

Assessment can take up to a couple of hours to complete. If a biopsy has been taken it is usual to return to the clinic the following week for the results. If a biopsy is not required the results of further investigation will be discussed at your attendance and will also be confirmed in writing to you.

It is worth remembering that the majority of ladies attending for assessment do not have breast cancer. If you are particularly worried about being recalled to an assessment clinic please call us or the Breast care Nurses on 01270 612130.

You are welcome to bring a family member or friend with you when you attend.
