Tips To Look After Yourself This Bank Holiday

21 August 2018

Many of us may be making plans for the bank holiday on Monday 27 August. If you are unfortunate enough to have an illness or injury over the long weekend, this information could help you get back on your feet in no time.

Some local pharmacies are open on bank holiday Monday, and may be able to give you the advice and medication you need, without having to wait to see your GP.

The bank holiday opening times for local pharmacies can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.

If you need urgent medical advice, the NHS 111 telephone service is a free phone number provided by North West Ambulance Service. They will give you the advice you need, or direct you to the service best for your need.

Also see ‘self-care’ webpages for information to help you to look after yourself, including:

  • Fact sheets for a range of conditions such as low back pain, eczema, heartburn, constipation, headache, cough, sprains and strains
  • Links to the NHS Choices A-Z of conditions and treatments
  • Advice to help you stay healthy and live well
  • Details for mental health services
  • An app to guide parents of under 5s on when medical treatment is necessary
  • Details of the Minor Ailments service where a pharmacist may be able to prescribe medication for certain conditions.
