Northwich’s Minor Injuries Unit To Open Seven Days A Week

Outpatients Department at Victoria Infirmary
4 January 2021

Victoria Infirmary’s Minor Injuries Unit will be opening seven days a week from Saturday 9 January and will for the first time include a weekend x-ray service.

The unit has been open Monday to Friday since March but is now extending its opening hours to include weekends.

In addition, the unit will be extending the operating hours of its x-ray service to include Saturdays and Sundays – the first time this service has been available in Northwich at weekends.

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is run by highly trained and experienced nurse practitioners who have undertaken specialist training and are able to assess, diagnose and treat patients of all ages.

The MIU offers treatment and advice on illnesses and injuries that need attention urgently but are not critical or life threatening.

The new opening hours for the unit will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and Saturday to Sunday, 9am to 1pm.

The enhanced GP out of hours service continues to run from 6.30pm to 10pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 6pm at the weekend with the option of speaking to a GP remotely or a home visit from 6pm to 10pm on a Saturday and Sunday.

Chief Executive James Sumner said: “We know that people living in the Northwich area really value the services we provide at Victoria Infirmary.

“Our team of dedicated staff are available to support you, and we have worked hard to keep the service open for longer to provide urgent care safely in the community.

“Patient safety is at the heart of our service delivery and we’re very pleased to now have a team embedded and ready to offer an enhanced seven-day service to support people in the local area.”

Patients needing help with minor injuries can also continue to contact NHS 111. An advisor can book a time slot at the best local service to help including the Minor Injuries at VIN Urgent Treatment Centre at Leighton, your GP practice or Leighton Hospital A&E.
