NHS Trust Seeks Enthusiastic Governors

Treatment Centre at Leighton Hospital

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) is inviting patients, carers and members of the public to stand as a Governor in its upcoming Council of Governor Elections.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, has a Council of Governors made up of 29 individuals over four constituencies who have an important role in the Trust.

Governors ensure that Members’ views are represented at the very highest level and hold the Non-Executive Directors to account for the performance of the Board of Directors. Governors also appoint Non-Executive Directors and auditors to the Trust and approve any significant mergers or transactions.

Throughout January, MCHFT is inviting patients, carers, staff and members of the public to stand as a Governor. It is also hosting a number of ‘Meet your Governor’ events, which will take place at a variety of locations.

These events will provide the opportunity to meet some of the Trust's current Governors and discuss the role with those who are most familiar with it. For a list of the dates, please visit www.mcht.nhs.uk/members.

There are a total of 14 Governor vacancies in the following constituencies and areas:

• Public Constituency (must live in relevant area) - Congleton (two positions available), Crewe & Nantwich (four positions available) and Vale Royal (two positions available)

• Patient & Carer Constituency (two positions available and must have been a patient or carer of a patient at the Trust in the last five years)

• Staff Constituency – Other Professionally Qualified Staff (one position available), Medical & Dental Practitioner (one position available), Volunteer (one position available) and Trade Union Representative (one position available).

The Trust would like to encourage staff, patients, carers and members of the public to get involved and help make a difference. You can have your say and play your part for your local hospital. If you would like to stand as a Governor, you will be required to fill in a nomination form.

Nominations opened on Friday 10 January 2020, with the deadline for all nominations to be submitted by Tuesday 28 January.

Voting will then take place for members in the middle of February and the declaration of the results will be towards the beginning of March. If you do not wish to stand as a Governor, please don’t forget to vote when you have the chance as Governors play a pivotal role in the development of local NHS services.
