New Support Group For Lung Cancer Patients

Support Group For Lung Cancer Patients
Members of “Catch Your Breath” with (far left) Michelle Huxley, Macmillan Service Improvement Manager and (far right) Lynn Thomas, Macmillan Lung Clinical Nurse Specialist.

A new support group for patients with lung cancer has been established by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group, named ‘Catch Your Breath’ by its members, is thought to be the first such group in the area and is available for all lung cancer patients to attend as well as their family, friends and carers.  Taking place on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the easily-accessible Crewe Fire Station, the free sessions will commence at 1.30pm and last for approximately two hours. The next group meeting will be Wednesday, March 25, 2015.

The first part of each session will feature a guest speaker, such as a Physiotherapist or Dietitian, followed by the opportunity for attendees to discuss their experiences with each other. A healthcare professional will also be present at each meeting to offer advice and support where necessary.

The group would like to take this opportunity to thank Cheshire Fire and Rescue for the free use of their meeting room at Crewe Fire Station and to Macmillan Cancer Support and Bentley Motors for kindly helping with the funding needed to establish the group for the benefit of patients.

For further information about the sessions, please contact Sue Stubbs or Lynn Thomas, Macmillan Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists based at Leighton Hospital, on 01270 612598.
