Hospital Thanks Community For Egg-cellent Easter Donations

Staff from local Co-op Food stores visit the children's ward at Leighton Hospital to donate hundreds of Easter eggs

26 April 2017

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), in partnership with Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity, would like to say a huge thank you to the local community for the generous donations received over the recent Easter period.

The Trust received hundreds of Easter eggs from local groups, companies and individuals, which were handed out to younger patients staying on the Child and Adolescent Unit (CAU) at Leighton Hospital.

Treats were also shared with patients’ siblings and children in other areas of the hospital such as the Krishnan Chandran Children’s Centre, a dedicated children’s outpatient department.

Sue Palin, Housekeeper on the CAU, said: “We are always overwhelmed by the support from the local community and would like to thank everyone who made a donation.

“Staff working over Easter ensured that they were used to benefit younger patients who were in or visiting hospital - something as simple as a chocolate egg can really make a difference to their hospital experience.”

Those who made a donation to the Trust included:

  • Staff and customers from Co-op Food stores in Nantwich and Crewe. Area Manager Alan Smith joined the Easter Bunny (Store Manager Marie Edgar) and Store Manager Sheila Fontana to deliver around 400 eggs to the children’s wards staff and patients

  • Cheshire West and Chester Highways and their highways contractor, Ringway, who donated more than 100 chocolate eggs

  • A team of young adults on Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s The Prince’s Trust Programme, who visited patients on the children’s ward and presented them with eggs

  • The Old School House Day Nursery, based in Hartford, Northwich, who donated six bags of eggs

  • Tesco Extra Crewe, who donated a number of Easter eggs

  • Staff at Crewe Volkswagen, who donated dozens of eggs after nominating the hospital to their Head Office

  • Friends of Haslington School (FOHS), a registered charity run by parents, grandparents and friends of Haslington Primary School. Parent Tracy Allen joined sons Paul, 12, and Robert, ten, on a visit to Leighton Hospital to deliver a number of eggs that had been left over from FOHS’ Easter bingo

  • Members of the St. Marks Church Hall Slimming World group, who donated 20 eggs

Sue added: “We would also like to say thank you to all of the individual families that have made donations and, in doing so, have brought a smile to the children spending time with us over Easter.”
