Former Nurses Invited To 'Return To Practice'

31 October 2016

Leighton Hospital is offering nurses who have left the profession the chance to be paid while they retrain, following the successful launch of a ‘Return to Practice’ scheme.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), which runs the Crewe-based hospital, introduced the programme last year and recently celebrated when all nurses on the course secured jobs.

The Trust is now hoping to repeat the success by running the programme for a second time.

The scheme is run in partnership with the University of Chester and is designed to fit around the professional and personal needs of former nurses who are interested in resuming their nursing career.

Return to Practice Nurses receive paid holidays, staff benefits and are guaranteed a full or part-time position on successful completion of the course.

Alison Lynch, Director of Nursing and Quality at MCHFT, said: “Returning to nursing may sound like a big decision, but our programme makes it easy for individuals to put their invaluable skills and experience back into practice.

“The scheme is unique in that, as well as offering a salary, we make it as flexible as possible.

“Opportunities are available in all areas of nursing, including general and specialist surgery, medicine and emergency care, paediatrics, rehabilitation, and community nursing.

“Former nurses can retrain in an area where they want to work and can fit the programme around any personal needs and commitments. There’s incredible support and coaching available every step of the way, too.

“If you have previously trained as a nurse and feel ready to come back we’d love to speak to you about the options available.”

Those who are accepted on to the programme will work alongside current nurses whilst picking up new skills in Leighton Hospital’s School of Nursing.

The Trust is holding an information afternoon for those who would like to find out more.

Those interested are asked to arrive at Leighton Hospital for 1pm on Tuesday 8 November. The event, which will run until 3pm, will provide an opportunity to talk to the latest Return to Practice Nurses, meet mentors and course facilitators, and tour the hospital and its departments.

Attendees will also be given information on the recruitment and interview process.

For further information, including how to apply for the scheme, please contact Audrey Butterworth, HR Assistant, on 01270 273 712 or Audrey.butterworth@mcht.nhs.uk.
