All NHS organisations have a statutory obligation to conduct certain checks on employees and additional checks on specific groups of employees. The information below should help you understand which checks we will undertake for your application, why they are important and how they may affect your application.
Identity and Illegal Working
You will need to provide ID and proof of your right to work in the UK. You will be advised by your Recruitment Officer what documents are required but generally 1 photo ID and 2 proofs of address (or vice versa) is OK, e.g. a passport and 2 household bills.
References
The Trust checks your employment history over the last 3 years. It is your responsibility to provide work references and accurate contact details. Referees must include your last manager and should not include colleagues who had no line management responsibility for you or friends and family.
Criminal Records Bureau Checks (CRB)
In general, all positions which have some form of patient contact will require the successful applicant to undertake a CRB disclosure. It depends on the nature of the contact whether we undertake a standard or an enhanced disclosure. In some cases the Trust may delay the start of your employment until the CRB disclosure is returned. The results of a CRB disclosure may mean you cannot undertake the job that has been conditionally offered to you. For more information go to the CRB Guidance pages online.
Please note: CRB disclosures are paid for by the employee and not the Trust.
Registration with Professional Body
Certain posts require applicants to be registered with a professional body. If this applies to you please ensure we are able to check your registration at recruitment.
Qualifications
Certain posts require applicants to have achieved a particular qualification. You will be asked to provide evidence of this where it is stated in the essential criteria on the person specification for the post.
Occupational Health Screening
You may be required to attend an appointment with the Trust’s Occupational Health Service prior to or post appointment.
