Location

The Library is situated across the car park from the main Leighton Hospital entrance, beside the Faculty of Health & Social Care, University of Chester.  The external entrance is shared with the Post Graduate Medical Centre and is clearly signposted.

About Us

The Joint Education & Training (JET) Library is a partnership service operated between Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Chester. 

Staffed hours: 8.30am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday (not open Bank Holidays).

Membership is open to ALL Trust staff, volunteers and students on placement, University of Chester staff and students, and employees of East Cheshire NHS Trust and Cheshire & Wirral Partnership.  The Library participates in the following access schemes: SCONUL, LEARN (an INSPIRE Project) and teh Cheshire & Mersey Access Agreement.

Reference access is available to members of the public by prior arrangement. 

To join please bring NHS ID badge, proof of employment or student card.  A passport sized photo is required, but can be taken at the time of joining.  When joining you will be requested to sign agreement to the Library Terms and Conditions.

Services

The JET Library is committed to the provision of relevant, timely and high quality information for the purposes of service improvement, continuing professional development and patient care.  We aim to promote evidence based practice as a foundation of quality service delivery within Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, partner organisations and for associated stakeholders.

Key services include (some services applicable to full members only): 

  • Search, renew or reserve stock via library catalogue
  • General health information enquiry service
  • Out of hours access (£10 refundable deposit required)
  • Training on locating and evaluating high quality health information
  • Specialist literature search service
  • Current awareness bulletins
  • Article and book ordering scheme
  • Computer facilities for Trust employees / students on placement / University of Chester staff and students.  Walk-in  public access may be available through the University of Chester network.
  • Quiet study facilities
  • Stock lending
  • On-line resource provision and support
  • Support to the Trust literacy agenda 


Community Outreach Service

This is a library service specifically for healthcare professionals who work in community settings such as medical centres, doctors' surgeries, schools, etc. Key parts of the service include:

  • literature search for research, audits, commissioning projects and evidence-based practice

  • trainingon how to find good quality information online e.g. database searching (Medline, Cinahl etc)

  • Inter-library requests
  • General enquiries

 

Please note that this service is mobile: it can come to workplaces and homes if needed to provide training or discuss information needs, and to provide requested books and articles.
