We provide a comprehensive, free and confidential sexual health service, including screening for sexually transmitted infections, HIV testing and treatment, sexual health information and counselling and provide all forms of contraception.
Staff at the Centre know how sensitive the visit may be & aim to reassure you. All of our staff are highly qualified sexual health & contraception practitioners who will treat you with respect & dignity.
Many sexual infections have no symptoms, but can be passed on quickly. We encourage everyone to have regular check ups, especially at the start of a new relationship. We also screen & treat many other problems which are not sexually transmitted, such as thrush & bacterial vaginosis. The Centre also provides a full contraception service to all patients.
We offer a 'drop in' clinic every morning Monday to Friday - between 9am-12am, or if you prefer, appointments in the afternoon. The 'drop in' clinic does get busy and patients usually have to wait. We aim to see all patients within 48 hours of contacting the service.
Please note - patients arriving after 12pm without an appointment may not be seen.

What happens at the Clinic
If it is your first visit to the Centre the receptionist will ask you to fillin a form, giving your first name, date of birth, postcode and a phone number. Any other information is optional and all information is confidential and is not used outside of the Centre. You will be given a clinic number and asked to take a seat in the waiting area. You will be called in appointment order.
Seeing the Doctor or Nurse Practitioner
The doctor or nurse will take you into a private room and take details of your sexual history and any problems you may have. You will usually be examined by a doctor or nurse and tests taken for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and any other conditions which may be present. If examined by a doctor you will always have a nurse present as a chaperone, if examined by a nurse practitioner you will be offered a chaperone. You may be asked to do a urine sample or have swabs taken and be offered a blood test for HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis. You may be asked to see the health advisor, who gives information and advice on sexual health and carries out partner notification. If you need any treatment this will be given at the end of your visit (all medication is free). Your first visit to the clinic may take up to one and a half hours. You may bring a friend or relative to support you during the interview or examination if you wish.
The Centre will ring or text you within 14 days if your tests show that you have an infection that needs treatment, and you will be asked to return to collect the appropriate medication. You may have an appointment made to return to see the doctor or nurse depending on your condition.
Please ring the clinic during opening hours to speak to a health advisor or nurse practitioner for any information or advice.
Information about sexually transmitted infections is also available from www.bashh.org/public (external website, links opens in new window).
Sexually transmitted infections can have serious consequences for you and your sexual partner - seek advice early if you are worried about your health.
